Yemeni air defenses repel Israeli warplanes targeting Hodeida

A Yemeni military official reported that advanced domestic air defenses successfully intercepted Israeli warplanes during attacks on Hodeida. The systems, described as locally produced and sophisticated, forced Israeli aircraft to retreat.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior military official in Yemen’s Sanaa-based Defense Ministry disclosed new details about an encounter between Yemeni air defenses and Israeli aircraft during attacks on Hodeida and other areas on Sunday evening.

Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Sharif, advisor to the Defense Minister in Sanaa, told the Yemeni Press Agency (YPA) that Israeli warplanes targeting Hodeida were repelled by Yemeni anti-aircraft defenses.

He explained that Israeli jets also attempted to breach Yemeni airspace en route to other provinces but were met with robust defensive actions that thwarted their operations.

“The Israeli pilots were caught off guard by the effectiveness of our air defenses, which forced them to withdraw from Hodeida’s airspace,” Al-Sharif stated.

He described the air defense systems used as “advanced and high-quality,” pointing out that they were locally produced surface-to-air missiles. He added, “The Israeli enemy never anticipated Yemen having such capabilities.”

Al-Sharif emphasized that the successful interception reflects Yemen’s growing self-sufficiency in defense. “Our military has once again shown it can challenge the Zionist enemy and stop its objectives,” he said.

He noted that the Sanaa government prioritizes domestic arms production. “This success is just one of many surprises we are preparing for Israel and its allies,” he added.

He concluded by warning that Yemen’s defensive capabilities will escalate operations against Israeli targets. “From now on, the Israeli entity will not be safe anywhere in the occupied territories,” he said.
